You are already a high achieving woman who has some significant level of leadership either leading your own business, a project team, or your own career and leadership journey!   Most importantly we are all leaders at some level!  

Yet you may still be navigating command and control environments resulting in unfair challenges because of your gender or other barriers. Here are some important questions to ask that may guide you to think of possible solutions:

  • And is it the right one for you?
  • How is it helping you?
  • What value could these questions bring to you as you move forward?

Many of my clients, like you, desire a safe confidential space to reflect and focus. As high achievers we are often consumed with delivering results for others while juggling unexpected business and personal detours!

When you clearly identify what you want to be known for, it’s easier to let go of the tasks and projects that do not allow you to deliver on that brand and say yes to those that do!

Despite having a personal leadership brand the extra hurdles women are required to pass can lead to discouragement, overwhelm and burnout. As a result our voices are not being heard enough as we navigate what Harvard Business Review refers to as the metaphor of a labyrinth versus the more common known glass ceiling analogy. In other words there is a general bias against women at all steps of the ladder.

The labyrinth is an image with a long and varied history in ancient Greece, India, Nepal, native North and South America, medieval Europe, and elsewhere. As a contemporary symbol, it conveys the idea of a complex journey toward a goal worth striving for. Passage through a labyrinth is not simple or direct, but requires persistence, awareness of one’s progress, and a careful analysis of the puzzles that lie ahead. It is this meaning that we intend to convey. For women who aspire to top leadership, routes exist but are full of twists and turns, both unexpected and expected. Because all labyrinths have a viable route to the center, it is understood that goals are attainable. The metaphor acknowledges obstacles but is not ultimately discouraging.” Harvard Business Review, Women and the Labyrinth of Leadership

As we navigate the Labyrinth, I started to ponder how we women could deepen our strength; stamina and resiliency to ensure our voices are heard and expressed through our personal leadership brands, despite obstacles!

“How could we step away so we come back even stronger?”

What would it look like to rise above the labyrinth to plan your next strategic move?

I ask clients to use a “meta-view” a symbolic perspective from “high above”, whether it is from the top of a mountain, or a hot air balloon to encourage you to view your situation from a higher perspective.
